The Lilly Loch is a Rainbow and Brown Trout fishery, located at Hillend near Airdrie. Our season usually lasts about 8 months, from the beginning of March to the end of October. During this time the loch is frequently stocked with Rainbow Trout, and occasionally Brown Trout.
The Loch is popular with local anglers, a number of whom hold season tickets, as do the club members, who can be found fishing there throughout the season. There are competitions held throughout the season, which cater for both bait and fly anglers. See the Competition Dates page for full details.
Apart from being a popular fishing spot, the scenic views, combined with excellent access and footpaths make the loch and the surrounding area popular with rambling clubs and walkers. The area is rich in bird and animal life, the area being home to badgers, foxes and deer, and many species of waterfowl.
The loch is not visible from the road, but all is revealed on arrival at the dam (below). From here you can see the hut, where day tickets and boat hire are available. There is a jetty at the hut to allow disabled anglers to fish there.
Anglers are asked ideally to take their rubbish away with them, or to use one of the bins located around the loch. Litter left around the loch is not only unsightly, but can be hazardous to some of the animal life which inhabits the area. Open fires are not permitted, and anyone found to be leaving rubbish or lighting fires may be asked to leave the loch.
Please be aware of the nature of the local area, and the ground to the north side of the loch, which is liable to subsidence and rockfall.![]()
