Rules of the Loch
Fishing by fly, bait and spinner are all permitted on the Lilly Loch. Outside of the brown trout season, livebaits such as maggots or worms are not permitted. Powerbait is permitted, however swimfeeders are not allowed at ANY time. When bait fishing for trout you may not catch and release fish. All trout over 10 inches must be taken. When you have caught your bag limit you must stop fishing. Pike of any size should be returned to the water after being caught.
There is a fly fishing only area (the burn area up to the bridge) on the south side of the loch which has a maximum bag of two fish per angler. After catching two fish they must leave and fish another part of the loch, regardless of whether they release the fish they have caught.
Fish should not be cleaned/gutted at the lochside, as this attracts vermin. All anglers may be asked to show the contents of their tackle bag or other receptacle to a designated bailiff or two ordinary club members.
Only one rod per angler at any one time. Anyone found in breach of this rule by a club member or bailiff may face a future ban from the Lilly Loch and also from the neighbouring Hillend Reservoir, controlled by Airdrie & District Angling Club.
Boat hire is available for a maximum of two anglers per boat, and is for fly fishing only. Cost of boat hire is currently £6 per day. Boats are row-boats, and outboard engines are not supplied.
From 1st May until 31st August, night fishing is permitted, and there are two 12 hour fishing sessions, 7 am to 7 pm, and 7 pm to 7 am.
Camping is permitted at the loch for no extra charge, however anglers who do camp are reminded NOT to light fires and to place rubbish in the bins provided.
In the close season, pike fishing is permitted for club members, and is free of charge. Should a non-member wish to fish for pike they must be accompanied by a club member.
If you have any concerns about the behaviour of groups or individuals fishing on the loch, please advise the bailiffs on the day. We have had one or two complaints about some anglers behaviour, but if the bailiffs aren't made aware at the time then there is little we can do. All anglers should be aware of the full rules of the loch, which are printed on your ticket.
