Fishing by fly, bait (live or powerbait) and spinner are all permitted methods.

Fly Fishing.

Fly fishing is a popular method among anglers at the Lilly Loch. It is probably most succesful during the warmer months of the season when there are regular hatches of fly on the surface of the water, inreasing the chances of catching one of the large brown trout that reside in the loch. Popular fly patterns include Buzzers, Mallard and Clarets, Silver Invictas, Sedges and Muddlers. Fly fishing is permitted anywhere on the loch, from the bank or by boat, and there is a reserved area for fly fishing only on the south side of the loch. See the Prices and Restrictions page for information about boat hire.

Bait Fishing

Bait fishing is the most popular method in the cooler months of the season, but is succesful all season round. Powerbait is very succesful, and anglers using it often take away their full bag limit. Worms and maggots are also popular baits, but it should be noted that these can only be used within the brown trout season (15th March to 6th October). The use of swimfeeders is not allowed at any time.

Spinning

Spinning, though not as popular as fly or bait fishing is still succesful, and many good fish have been taken while spinning on the loch. Spinning also gives anglers the possibility of catching perch, or even on of the large pike which live in the loch. Copper or silver Tobys are favoured, as are Dexters, Mepps and Tasmanian Devils.
