Getting there

The Lilly Loch is located on the main A89 road, around 5 miles East of Airdrie, at Hillend. Car parking is available opposite the Owl & Trout Country Inn. The loch is only 500m from the road, and is reached by following the signposted public right of way, which takes between five and ten minutes.

If you are travelling by public transport there is a regular bus service which stops at the Owl & Trout. Call Traveline Scotland on 0871 200 22 33 for times.

From 2011 there is a new rail service at Caldercruix, with two trains an hour each way from Glasgow and Edinburgh. The new station will be around a 20 minute walk from the loch. Check National Rail Enquiries or Traveline Scotland for times and prices.

The Owl & Trout

The Owl and Trout Country Inn is situated opposite the car park, and welcomes anglers for refreshments and food, either to eat in, or to take out. The Owl & Trout is at 39 Airdrie Road, Caldercruix, ML6 8PA, and can be contacted for food reservations (or orders to take out) on 01236 843227.

Please note: The Owl and Trout do NOT sell permits for the loch.

Fishing Tackle

There are two tackle shops in Airdrie, the nearest being Airdrie Angling Centre which is on the A89 enroute to the loch from Airdrie. It stocks a wide range of tackle, including rods, reels, clothing and live bait. If coming from the east, there are two tackle shops in Armadale, with Liveline on the A89 being the most convenient.

Other services

The village of Caldercruix, only a two minute drive from the car park has convenience stores, post office, a doctors surgery, pubs and take-away food.

There is a petrol station just off the A89 in Airdrie, on Carlisle Road. Airdrie town centre has a variety of shops to suit most needs.

Go Outdoors at Coatdyke stocks fishing tackle, tents, sleeping bags and outdoor clothing and equipment.
